The Creation Legends of the Ipurinas and Yurukares of Bolivia and north-western Brazil have a myth that at the time of some great catastrophe human beings sought refuge in a great cave from which they emerged with great difficulty after the deluge, which succeeded the great conflagration, as the entrance to the cave was blocked. Those who did not seek refuge in the cave were presumably killed, as when the refugees emerged the only living beings were monkeys. The world was repopulated by Titi and by
